About Us

Formed in 1967 at Olathe Naval Air Station (now New Century Airport), the Flying Club of Kansas City (formally the Kansas City Navy Aero Club) has been in operation for over 50 years. With a focus on safety, the club has maintained an enviable safety record over its many years of operation.

The Club’s airplanes fly an average of 300 hours annually. Our airplanes are well-maintained with an emphasis on ensuring a high dispatch rate while still ensuring the highest level of safety. When you join a flying club, you stop being a renter an start being an owner. The difference is significant. You, and your fellow members take pride in your airplanes. You also get to realize the advantages of no longer padding someone else’s profit margins.

We are a group of over 100 like-minded pilots who want to make flying easy, accessible, and affordable. We also like getting together for monthly meetings, hangar parties, or fly-outs to talk about flying and learn something new. We frequently have special speakers attend our meetings to talk about various flying-related topics, and our instructors frequently discuss piloting technique, tips and tricks, and safety steps.

We go out of our way to ensure that our airplanes are operated in a safe and efficient manner, and everyone takes pride in keeping the airplanes in great cosmetic shape.

Our fleet provides anything you could want Two Cessna 172s, a Piper Archer, two Cessna 182s, a Beechcraft Debonair capable of 165kt. and a six seater Piper Saratoga. Most aircraft have IFR-certified GPS units and are frequently used for cross-country flights. Our flexible scheduling rules allow for taking the airplanes for even long trips of up to 2 weeks within minimal daily minimums.
